The Windows Project
Date of Submission: October 31, 2009

Date of Competition: November 1, 2009

Purpose:  To inspire creativity and bring together the local creative community in a competition and fund raising activity for breast cancer research and the support of local breast cancer survivors.

This competition and activity is an annual event at the Garden of the Dragonfly. “Day of the Living”, the day after Oct. 31, Day of the Dead, to celebrate all those who are survivors of cancer and those who wish to acknowledge the gift of good health.

Activity:  A competition utilizing antique windows, in various sizes, some with glass, some without.  They may be painted on, used as canvas or used as a frame for art work and ready to hang on the wall.  Limited to first 50 entrants, as there are only 50 antique windows. 

Theme:  Windows into Healing

Materials:  Any materials may be used as long as the window is utilized in the composition.

Date:  Entry is now until all windows are distributed.

Entry Fee: $25.00 entry fee, window given upon payment of entry fee. 

Timeline:  Submit completed art window composition between10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday October 31, 2009. 
Judging is noon, November 1, 2009. 
Auction is 4 p.m. November 1, 2009.

Prizes:  First Prize $500, Second Prize $300, Third Prize $200

Objectives: 

  1. To inform the local community of artists and interested creative people in the Spring area about a challenging artistic project
  2. To raise funds through donations by local supporting businesses, hospitals and or individuals for art prizes and auctioned sale of art windows for cancer research and breast cancer research
  3. To inform the greater Houston community of this art event and encourage bidding for windows
  4. Bidding of completed art windows to begin at $50.00
  5. All participating artists must be entered by October 5 to get mentioned in media coverage (limited to 45, # of windows)
  6. All participating sponsors will be mentioned in media coverage
  7. All proceeds of the windows purchased at auction will go to The Weathervane Foundation for Cancer Research and Breast Cancer Research
